There are three reasons why I feel that these photographs should be made publicly available:
Firstly, my great personal affection for the old Central Library is not unique amongst those who grew up in the town of Greenock, and hence I thought that images of its remarkable interior might be of some interest amongst others;
secondly, they act as a record of some of the mural work of Charles Anderson. I have spent some very pleasant time in Charles' company and his phlegmatic attitude towards the destruction of so much of his work remains a lesson;
thirdly, given that the demolition of the building and its murals looks set to begin any day (at the time of writing) these images may prove to be a record, too, of a familiar and much-loved space for generations of Greenockians. As far as I am aware (also at the time of writing) the murals remain intact.
